Quilt Exhibit at the Textile Museum!

Now, this is not specific to knitting, but I know that several of us do more than just knit or crochet.

Constructed Color: Amish Quilts
This exhibition, on loan from the International Quilt Study Center and Museum at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, features 29 examples from the center’s highly regarded collection. The quilts represent three specific regional groups, each with its own distinctive features, drawn from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, from Midwestern communities and from Mifflin County, Pennsylvania.

The museum is open Tuesday through Sat, 10am-5pm, and Sundays 1-5pm. There's a 46 minute documentary relating to the exhibit that shows daily at 11am, 12:30pm, and 2:30pm.

I am very interested in going to see this, and while I can certainly go on my own, I thought it might be just the thing to get this tiny community back on its feet again.

Are any of you interested? And, if so, what days and times would work best for you?

[The museum is maybe a half-mile from the Dupont Metro (north exit), and maybe 2 miles from the National Cathedral (me).]

Knit 2009!

Woo! Let's get this year started right!

Now, I know some of you may have left town, and that the rest may not feel up to dealing with the traffic issues (my grocery store, probably the cruddiest Giant in the District, had a "no events parking" sign up yesterday), but I am happy to host a knitting afternoon over the long weekend!

I have tomorrow and Tuesday off. My only caveat is that I will not be showing Inauguration coverage here. I would like to keep Knit DC bipartisan (or would that be apartisan?). I do, however, have a nice pile of movies, and a new Roku player for Netflix (streams content to your TV) from Santa.

If anyone would like to come over, post a comment and we'll figure out logistics!

Whoops! I thought I had added this community to my friend's list, but apparently I didn't, and I missed all these messages!

Let me know if there are any more meetups- I'd definitely be interested.

I moved out to Alexandria, so if you're interested in maybe a field-trip out to the Michael's and JoAnn's out by Seven Corner's, we could come by my house afterwards for crafting and cookies.

Next Meetup!

Hey, crafters!

Emmala and Fancymcpants were able to come out last Sunday and we had a good time (Chime in, Ladies!). They suggested 11/16 as the next meetup, which sounds great to me! So here are our options:

1. We can have a meetup at my house, 2pm next Sunday.

2. We can have a meetup at All Fired Up, a paint-your-own-pottery-place, at 2pm next Sunday.

3. Anyone who wants to could come to my house for crafting and Top Chef on Wednesday, 11/12.

So, what'll it be?!

Bonus Goodies: Star Stitch II Pattern!
[As seen on Marnie McLean's blog: Marnie, Speak!]

Worked on larger needles and blocked out, it produces a lovely flower-like lace stitch. Worked tightly on smaller needles, you get a great textural stitch that doesn't curl and is just unusual enough to catch peoples' attention.

The stitch is worked as follows.
With a multiple of 4+1
Star: P3 tog, but leave old stitch on left needle, yo, P same 3 stitches together, removing the old stitch from the left needle.
Rows 1 and 3: Knit
Row 2: *k1, star stitch* repeat to last stitch, k1
Row 4: k1, p1, *k1, star stitch* repeat to last 3 stitches, k1, p1, k1

The first step is admitting... you need more yarn.

Hi, I'm Spidersweb, and I craft way too much.

I paint and knit primarily, but I also dabble in crossstitch, embroidery, jewelry making-- just about anything where I see something and think 'that looks neat; let's try that!' I've been in DC a little over a year now, and live and work in the NW. I have a dog and a cat. Oh, and I like to bake. Bread, mostly, but I like to lure unsuspecting strangers into my gingerbread apartment and feed them and...

I'm just glad to meet some other DC crafters!
